About the Program
The Center for Global Surgery Evaluation Fellowship is for those seeking to make a contribution to the field of global surgery through scientific research centered around impact evaluation. The purpose of the fellowship is to train future leaders in academic global surgery to develop research skills and tools for evaluating the outcomes of interventions, specifically in low and middle-income countries. Fellows will work collaboratively with CGSE team members and also in close contact with Paul Farmer Global Surgery Research Fellows at the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change at Harvard Medical School.
The Center for Global Surgery Evaluation Fellowship is for individuals who have strong interest in global surgery research. There are no specific prerequisites regarding medical background or clinical experience. Applicants from a broad range of backgrounds will be considered as there are many disciplines that are qualified to contribute to the fellowship mission. The fellow will be actively involved in introductory curriculum with the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change at Harvard Medical School and the Center for Surgery and Public Health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Time will be spent developing theory and conducting practical application of theory via longitudinal studies. An introductory curriculum with regards to the history, epidemiology, and existing research in global surgery will be part of the fellowship. Fellows will have the opportunity to join existing efforts to lead impact evaluations as well as develop additional research techniques and applications to conduct novel impact evaluations. The fellow will also partake in weekly morning reports which include lectures from across academic spectrums including global health policy, advocacy, research.
24 months. Time will vary with each fellow depending on individual circumstances.

A Personal Statement. This statement should describe your interest in and commitment to expanding the field of global surgery. Personal statements should be limited to one single-spaced page. Please highlight a proposed vision for integrating your background and expertise into global surgery evaluation.
Two letters of recommendation. It is preferable that at least one be from a former research collaborator.
